When completing tasks on Airtasker it's important that you're safe whilst doing so. Below are some important safety considerations for the top task categories on Airtasker. These safety checklists (refer to our Top Task Categories Checklist Table below) have been supplied by UnionsNSW. Airtasker and UnionsNSW take no responsibility for incidents or injuries that arise from the use of the advice below. Handyman Tasks
These tasks can include furniture assembly, hanging pictures, painting, electrical and plumbing. Many of these tasks require tools and sometimes specialist skills and licenses.
If operating power tools;
- Ensure you have safe operating procedures.
- Acquire correct PPE prior to use for hearing and vibration protection.
- Establish an exclusion zone to ensure no one else is affected by the use of your power tool.
- Do not undertake an activity if there is a risk of exposure to electricity or water, which may cause electrocution if not eliminated.
Food and Beverage Delivery
If the task requires food handling, storage or food preparation, the person undertaking this task should have had food handling training.
Driving tasks
For tasks where driving is required, you need to make sure you check that you have:
- The right license, especially if certain vehicles are required
- A fatigue management plan when driving large distances (e.g. break every two hours)
- Checked the load limit is appropriate for the vehicle and secured correctly
- Assistance to load and unload item/s
Electrical and Gas Supplies
Any electrical wiring, working with gas fittings or plumbing task needs the relevant license. For licenses please visit your relevant State Government Fair Trading website (NSW, VIC, QLD, SA, WA, ACT, TAS, NT)
Delivery & Removals, Cleaning, Gardening, Design & Photography, Office Admin, Computer and Website, Research, Promotional Staff
If the task you're completing involves; high or sudden force, repetitive movement, sustained and/or awkward posture, or exposure to vibration please refer to the Code of Practice: Hazardous manual tasks. For tasks that require exposure to slippery surfaces, moving items or large bulk or surfaces with trip hazards, refer to Code of Practice: Managing the risk of falls at workplaces.
