If you ever feel uncomfortable or have had a negative encounter, you should let us know as soon as possible. Your concerns will be taken seriously and handled with confidentiality. Call your local emergency line if you ever find yourself in danger.
In this article you will find information about the following situations:
- If you have safety concerns about a task
- If you feel threatened
- If you feel bullied
- If another member is rude
- If your Customer breaches the Community Guidelines
- If another member is spamming you
If you have safety concerns about a task
You should only be undertaking tasks that you are qualified to do. If a task requires a licence that you don’t have (for example, asbestos removal) please do not make an offer or attempt the task, for the safety of yourself and others. There are some Safety Checklists in our Help Centre, supplied by UnionsNSW for Taskers in Australia, that you may find helpful. It’s also a good idea to check in with your local industry regulator or union to find specific advice on keeping safe in your situation.
If you feel threatened
Airtasker absolutely does not support intimidating behaviour. If you ever feel threatened, please report the matter to us. You should also make a report to the police if you are concerned, as they can assist outside of Airtasker. If it's urgent or an emergency, call your local emergency line.
If you feel bullied
People don’t always get along and disagreements can occur. It’s important to note, however, that Airtasker does not support inappropriate communication, including harassing other members. If someone has behaved in a way that has made you uncomfortable, we advise you to not respond to them but report it to us instead. For comments, press the ‘report as inappropriate’ flag. For private messages or any other off-platform communication with other members, please contact us here. Our team can then follow up and take action if required. For more information, see here.
If another member is rude
Our Community Guidelines are based on respect. If you notice someone has made an off-topic or trolling comment on a task, please let us know about it using the ‘report as inappropriate’ flag. We have a dedicated team that looks into every flag from the community and takes the required action. Although we currently don’t have a feature to let you know the outcome of your flag, please be assured that we take all reports seriously. If the customer is behaving in a way that you are uncomfortable with, it might be a good idea to let them know how you feel. If they continue misbehaving, get in touch with us. We can communicate with the other person on your behalf and assist in closing the task.
If your Customer breaches the Community Guidelines
It’s important to be aware of the Community Guidelines, so you can understand how they can affect you and your customer. If your customer has breached (or is attempting to breach) the guidelines please get in touch with us to let us know. Our team can then offer support and guidance accordingly.
Things to keep an eye out for include (but are not limited to); requesting to pay cash instead, posting a task that is not supported (full details here), or attempting to cancel without an agreement after you’ve started work.
If another member is spamming you
This could happen if someone sends you multiple messages or comments, making you feel uncomfortable or annoyed. Someone else’s communication style can be really different from your own and they may not realise you’re feeling spammed. We’d recommend politely letting them know how you feel. If the other person continues or the communication becomes heated, please feel free to contact us so we can help.
