What can I do to build trust in my Tasker?

Trust and Safety are really important concepts to us at Airtasker. We know how vital it is for you to feel confident in the person doing your task. Check out the below tips for steps you can take to help you feel more secure around other members on the platform.

Look for profile badges
Airtasker has a badge that members can apply for free to verify they have passed their background check to help you build your trust. Look out for:

Criminal Background Check Badge: This badge signifies that the Tasker had no disclosable court outcomes returned at the time of the check.

Ask to see an ID

If a Tasker does not have the badge, you can ask to see a copy of their ID. It’s a good idea to ask to see any qualification documents before the day of the task - you can use the private messaging feature to get the information you need. 

We recommend that if you do this, you offer up your own documents as this will help form trust between you and the other member.

Confirm Business or License Status

It can be helpful for your peace of mind if you can confirm things your Tasker has said. If they had mentioned having a business with lots of experience, or having a license for a task, you can ask for their business name and/or license number and then check with your state’s licensing board to verify the standing of the license and/or business. 

Please note: Each state will have its own set of regulations regarding contractor licensing and laws and how to go about checking for contractor licensure. Please check with your state or local municipality for information to learn more. 

Make sure the person you assign is the one who shows up

This is important not only for trust purposes, if a Tasker says they will send someone else on their behalf, let them know you’re not comfortable with that and want them to do it instead.

Be aware of who is helping your Tasker

Taskers can bring helpers along to assist on larger tasks, as long as these helpers have their own Airtasker accounts too. We’d recommend asking your Tasker if they have a helper coming along, and if they do, ask for their Airtasker details as well.
