Someone is acting suspiciously on my task
If someone’s behavior is making you feel uncomfortable on Airtasker, we would advise you to cease communication and remove yourself from the situation. Let us know about what happened as soon as possible - our specialized Trust and Safety team can support you.
Remember, if you ever feel in danger or find yourself in an emergency, call your local emergency line.
Something seems too good to be true
Often, if something seems unbelievably good, it’s likely it’s bad. Be wary of tasks with a sense of extreme urgency, tasks at odd times of the night, and requests to use your own money or accounts to undertake tasks. Ask questions in the comments section before making an offer, particularly to clarify gray areas or to confirm the exact specifics of a task.
Check out our detailed article here for more tips. If you’re still suspicious about something, please let us know so we can investigate.
Someone wants to cancel for cash
A customer may sometimes request to cancel the task so they can pay in cash instead. This could be for any number of reasons, but research indicates it could relate to fraudulent activity.
Tasks that stay on Airtasker incur a service fee to the Tasker so we can offer services that protect both customers and Taskers. The fee allows us to provide a secure platform and payment system, dispute resolution, and a support team. If a task is canceled, it will not be eligible for any of these services that are exceptionally valuable if something goes wrong.
We strongly advise keeping the task and payment on Airtasker. Our research shows this is the safest way. If someone does request to cancel in favor of cash you can politely decline, and say you would rather stay on Airtasker. If you feel uncomfortable at any time during this type of conversation, reach out to us and we can assist.
Something has gone missing during a task
If you can’t find something (such as tools, keys or other belongings), it’s possible you’ve left it behind on location. Try reaching out to the customer to see if they’ve found anything.
If you’re having trouble reaching them or getting your item/s back, reach out to us so we can advise according to the situation.
